Transition from group to cgi task

Hello,

Are there any design pattern for workflows? I have a group task followed by a cgi task. I'd like to immediately execute the cgi task when someone takes ownership of the group task. The problems I see are:

1. I don't see a way to immediately transition when taking ownership of the group task. Right now, I have to take ownership, select transition and clear the transition comment before moving to the cgi task.

2. Ownership of the cgi task. This needs to be set to whoever took ownership of the group task. I can set this with an external task, but then I loose the immediate transition to the cgi task. It is also a race between the external task and the user's screen refresh as to wether the cgi task will show up on their task list.

Has anyone else run into this? Is there a smooth way to transition from taking ownership of a group task to a cgi task? The half dozen steps it takes now won't be acceptable to my customer (or me for that matter).

Unfortunately, unless there are some undocumented features out there, I don't think there's a way to resolve your problem. The fact that you want your cgitask to be owned by the same person who took ownership of your grouptask pretty much forces you to use an externaltask in between to use the CLTs that determine the owner of the grouptask and subsequently sets the ownership of the cgitask. There could be a lot of improvement done with the whole grouptask concept. One possible way around this is, if you don't have too many people in your group and they are not likely to change, set your grouptask up as a series of usertasks ORed together and then assign those tasks to specific users - the same ones in your grouptask. This will add a lot of new tasks to your workflow, but it might solve your problem. Then the successors to each of your new usertasks will be cgitasks assigned specifically to the same person who owned the preceeding usertask. I can send you an example of what I'm talking about through email if this might be helpful.
