export data problem

after displaying report on web server while i trying to export report as excel,word or any other format without pdf then it gives xml data directly as output
what is matter i can not understand situation

Do you have Excel, Word, or PowerPoint 2003 or newer installed on the machine you are trying to view the reports? BIRT writes the XML format for these office documents. If you do not have the mime-type associated with these applications, you will see the raw xml.

i think you got my problem
but as per i am developing web application then it could not be possible for me say to install 2003
is it works with office xp or not?
