Metadata architecture question, help needed

We are currently storing all of our metadata within the DCR, which requires the users the rekey the information into the DCT. (its keyed initially into a workflow)

we recently had consultants here and they were not impressed with this architecture and recommended we use EAs and TS metadata.

we would like to change and use TeamSite metadata and extended attributes. from a high level, what all would be involved? i know we would have to enable and configure TS metadata.

would u recommened switching as soon as possible? we are currently on TS 5.5.2 sp2...would be better to switch methods after an upgrade to TS 6.1 first?
