Invalid workflow registry.

Apparently a bulk load (dozens of workflows) was running overnight when the backing store was frozen for backup and apparently this bulk load process does not handle that gracefully (starts throwing rpc connection messages and other stuff). As a result today I see this:

Invalid workflow registry.

What does it mean and how do I correct it?

Todo list in UI shows this:

An error has occured trying to obtain the todo list. The message returned by the server is: I/O error
