<p>Currently we have a report that contains many "data set columns", each one is formatted using the built-in "Number Format" formatter.</p>
<p>What we need is, instead of using the "out of the box" formatter, to use our internal number formatter.</p>
<p>We thought about coding an extension (plug-in) that will enable to add a new category to the number formatter. When choosing to format the data item using this new category, BIRT will call the internal formatter to receive the formatted number.</p>
<p>First of all, is this actually a possibility? If so, what is the process for developing such a plug-in? What are the relevant extension points for this and how is the actual extending done?</p>
