Users Can't Browse Via Left Pane

Hi,
We're using TeamSite 5.5.2 on Windows 2000. The problem is that when a user logs goes to his workarea, he can browse and click through the directory structure in the right browser pane. But on the left navigation pane, he if he clicks on a directory name it kicks him back to the /default/main listing in the right pane. I've checked file permissions on the server and the user has full control over the directory.

I tried placing the user in the "domain admins" group and then the left pane browsing worked. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding this? In what groups should a person be in to be able to browse directory structures via the left pane. Thanks,
