There have been questions lately about what's new in the upcoming OpenDeploy 5.6 release. Below is a summary of the new features. The beta program for this release recently concluded. General availability is anticipated within the next few weeks.
Multi-tiered transactional deployment: Synchronize content across multiple tiers of servers. UI provides point-and-click navigation to downstream deployment status.
Quorum: Specify number of targets to which content must be successfully deployed before entire transaction is committed.
Reporting: Base Servers and Receivers can publish events to a central report server. Includes reporting UI.
Delivery Adapter Framework: Enables creation of adapters for extending content delivery to specialized devices and protocols.
CDN integration: Adapter for pushing content to NetCache devices over HTTP.
Enhanced DNR: New trigger points and deployment manifest.
Data compression: For transmitting over bandwidth-constrained networks.
"Include" filters: For specifying file patterns or paths to include in a deployment.
Run as non-root: Config tool for setting up OpenDeploy to run as a non-root user.
Scheduled deployments: Can now take parameters and instance names.
Deployment termination: Can be requested via Admin UI or new command line tool.
UI enhancement: Admin UI now accepts deployment parameters (-k) and instance name (-inst).
Ports configuration: Documentation provides table of OpenDeploy ports with configuration instructions.
Streamlined packaging and installation: Separately installable Base Server, Receiver and Admin packages. Admin includes Admin UI Server, Reporting Server, and Operations Server which automatically installs if TeamSite OpenAPI is not present.
OpenDeploy 5.6 can be used standalone or in conjunction with TeamSite 5.5.2, 5.0.2 or 5.0.1. To facilitate phased upgrades, distribution is supported to targets running OpenDeploy 5.5.1 or 5.0.1.
