Replace palette in a chart

Is it possible to change the palette colors used in a chart using
javascript. We would like to create the charts with optimized colors
for display on screen (color) and for printing (b/w).

I found several ways to change the color when a datapoint is drawn
depending on the displayed value. But I am looking for a way to change
the complete palette. I would expect the palette to be defined in the
chart-object but unfortunately I cannot find it there.

Could somebody point out where the palette is defined, how it can
be accessed and how it can be modified?
