TeamSite 6.0 features support for both the new ContentCenter Standard/ContentCenter Professonal UIs as well as backwards compability and support for WebDesk Pro.
We have intentionally kept WebDesk Pro (WDP) around in the 6.0 release to assist you all in the ease of migration to the new platform. Taking this approach enables you to rollout your new initiatives on the new CC infrastructure without having to migrate existing users all in one shot.
Keep in mind that when the you upgrade from 5.5.2-->6.0, that there are certain shared infrastructure modules that we could not keep from changing over to the new infrastructure. However, all WFTs will be fine in TS 6.0, no coding changes necessary.
The three end users areas where the WDP end users will see a difference is DCTs, Metadata capture, and VisualPreview. I want to reiterate that all DCTs and DCRs will continue to work in 5.5.2 no problem. However, ALL end users (both cc-pro/cc-std and wdp) users will see the new FormsPublisher interface. The system is not equipped to support WDP users using the old 5.5.2 browser-based templating while letting TS 6.0 users use the new FP interface. So all users in TeamSite 6 will see the updated look and feel and functionality of the new FP.
Similarly, when capturing metadata, WDP users will now see the new JSP based MD capture window instead of the cgi based one. However, there are a lot of advantages to this that you can leverage in your TS 6 implementations. The old CGI based metadata capture screen has been replaced by a JSP-based screen. This new screen does everything that TST 5.0 can do including replicants, inline callouts for DB access, CGI callouts, <allowed> tags, and also introduces a new construct called <view> which enables you to define tabs in the UI and group like-metadata elements together. You can also be assured that the new Metadata capture screen utilizes the ContentServices SDK for client-server communication. The updated UI provides you much more flexibility to meet your unique needs. Just as a note because a lot of you have asked about this, FormAPI for JavaScript validation is NOT included in this version of the Metadata screen.
Users who are accustomed to previewing web pages with VisualPreview enabled will see the new VP toolbar and not the old one. Also WDP users will see the new ContentCenter login screen when they login to TeamSite. However, when they go to the WDP URL command (
http://server/iw-cc/webdeskpro) they will be taken to their WDP homepage upon authentication.
Reports from both customers and internals are that the upgrade is seamless, and no underlying changes are necessary for base out of the box functionality. Custom menu items need to be manually ported over to the UITK for use with the CC interfaces (but 5.5.2 customizations will still work in WDP with no effort) and minor things like changing the config in templating.cfg from .* to actually configuring the file to reflect which templates are available on which branch is necessary for the CC-Std My Forms Component to correctly display what forms are available in each branch.
