Copy Content field to Extended attribute?

We would like to copy the value of an input field within a DCR to an extended attribute of the same DCR.

I'm assuming on the Save event that field could be read, but is there a way to attach that field value to an extended attribute? (If yes, can you point to the right manual/document with how to do it?)
