Metadata Clears on Import

System

We are having the problem where metadata is cleared from an existing file if we import a new file over top of the old one. While this is not often done with HTML files, it is very common for image, pdf, and movie files. I remember seeing a setting that will preserve metadata on import but cannot find any documentation on the setting anywhere.

Please help!
