Custom DCR Validation/Left Nav

I have an onSave trigger that performs custom validation (I want to do the validation before onSaveValid to provide more useful error messages to the user). If I mark the fields as invalid, whether I redraw() or redrawLabels(), the left nav does not indicate the fields that I have marked as invalid. Everything is in containers so I would hope the left-nav would flyout to show the invalid fields. Is this possible?
