Block user access to TeamSite during maintenance?

Im curious as to what is the best practice to block user access to TeamSite during maintenance? we have a few users who use admin accounts to modify dcrs manually (and bypassing our wf process). even tho we sent out emails, they still attempted to access TS and work on files.

is there anyway to block access to TS (yet allow masters only) besides editing the role files then running an iwreset?
