teamsite 7.1 installation was unsuccessful -no logs

teamsite installation failed:
1. windows 2003, virtual image
2. it goes thru the entire process then spits out a message on the final screen " Installation was unsuccessful". --no log files were generated....

any clues... trying to install teamsite and core dependecies
