required field set from inline problem

When i set a required field from an inline I find that unless the user clicks in the field before saving the DCR the browser does not detect that the filed has been filled in and gives the 'you must fill in all required fields error'.
Is there anyway I can prevent this ? It's kind of worthless to fill in all the fields for the user so that they have less work if they have to go and click in them all anyway.
