use of <inline command="...">

Before you say "read the manuals" I've looked and can't find an example or information on what I'm trying to do.

I have a flat file that has the options for a drop down on the system that I can put it anywhere. I want to include with included options in a DCT but I'm hoping to use a simple command value. Is there something like command="type filename.xml"?

Any help/examples would be appreciated.
