task to add transparent background to targa

is there an example of an insertion or retrieval task out there which adds a transparent background to an image?

I am trying to add a transparent background to a targa file with the example from https://support.interwoven.com/kb/kb_show_article2.asp?ArticleID=50242
but that does not work.
