A long time ago, when I was allowed to use perl, I could swear I was able to create custom menu items that would invoke a perl script, but maybe they were CGI scripts. Regardless, it was pretty easy to do. Now reading the UI Customization Guide, since I can't use perl, it looks like my only option would be to invoke a Java servlet using a JSP. Blah. All I want to do is create a custom menu item to kick off a deployment. This would be remarkably simple using a shell script. But I don't see a way for a custom menu item to invoke a shell script. Is it possible?
I also don't see a simple Java SDK class that would help me kick off a deployment very easily unless it's part of a workflow task. Has anyone done this from a custom menu item and can give me some pointers?
I RTFM and am still stumped. I think the MFS. I leave it to the reader to decipher my acronym.
