Event Subsystem Integration

Hi,

We are on TS 7.1, windows 2008.

As we know Event Subsystem(ES) gets installed OTB with Teamsite and its being used by Teamsite search and reporting functionalities. Has anyone used event susbsystem apart from Search and Reporting? I was looking at the documentation around ES and i don't find an exhaustive information (One section in TS admin guide and few sections in reporting documentation).

Here is our use case:
We have a 3rd party application which has to consume certain OD events (Publishing) and take an action based on it.

We are planing to use ES as we have the events stored in the ES database and we can have the 3rd party consume those events. Do let me know your thoughts on the approach and the best practices using the event subsystem. Also let me know of any documentation which talks about configuring a listener and registering the triggers.

Also in my past i have seen performance issues with ES, where ES consumes lot of space and resources where we need to clear off the ES database and turn it off. Do let me know if you have encountered these issues.
