Extending user profile rules attributes

System

I extended the user profile and added several new attributes. Now I want to use these new attributes when adding new segments and/or targeting rules.
I searched all TeamSite/LiveSite docs and did not see any technical topics that would help me.
Could some one point me to a doc or tutorial?
I am on release 6.7.2 sp1
