Gettting current directory with FormApi

I need to get the current directory that a user is in when they use the "New Form Entry" command. The resulting DCT has the vpath hidden field value that I need.

<input type="hidden" name="vpath" value="//myserver/default/main/testbranch/WORKAREA/dev/htdocs/actuary"/>

But I can't get that full value with FormApi. It only returns the path to the workarea:
//myserver/default/main/testbranch/WORKAREA/dev/

Here is the FormApi line I'm using:

var dirPath = top.window.dataform.elements["vpath"].value;

I can use this line to get all of the hidden fields - but not the complete vpath.

What obvious thing am I missing??

Is there a better way to get the current directory path the user is in?
