Long Named Shallow Level Folders vs. Short Named Deep Folders

Looking at dividing assets into folders. Is there any data that would recommend one folder architecture over the other. (I can run the test, but if someone already has, I would rather leverage your learning.)

Example Architectures:

Example 1: 3 levels deep, assets only at terminus folders - total 10,000 folders

Example 2: 1 level deep, assets only at terminus folders - total 10,000 folders
