index agent: multilanguage locale problem

Hi,
I'm having the following error each time I try to start the index manager (TS 6.7.1 SP1 under Linux):

If I try not to specify any branch to index, the index server comes up, but will log the same error as soon as I try to add a branch with the corresponding CLT.
I don't understand why there is this uni locale error as though the locale specified in search.properties is English_UnitedStates.
Has anyone ever encountered that error?
