backing store conversion

All,
We are about to convert/upgrade from 5.0 to 5.5.1, and I was wondering if the iwconvert CLT actually copies the backing store from the original (source) machine to the new installation temp box (target), or does it move it? I am assuming that the CLT copies, but wanted to make sure.
