DataDeploy question
System
This might seem like a silly question but could someone please tell me what I could expect in this scenario (which is somewhat simplified but it hopefully gets the main points across).
We are using TeamSite 5.0.1 sp2, DataDeploy 5.2 sp1 and OpenDeploy 5.0.1 sp1 all on Windows 2000:
1. I have one Workarea and in the root of this workarea I create a new file called 'abc123.txt'.
2. I do 'Set Metadata' on the file and set fields I configured in Datacapture.cfg.
3. I submit the file to staging.
4. I create a new edition and publish to production using a synchronized Open Deploy / Data Deploy deployment against the previous edition. I have DataDeploy set up to deploy into a wide table. I verify that the new file 'abc123.txt' and the corresponding database record made it into production.
5. I go back to my Workarea and delete the file 'abc123.txt'
6. I view modified files and submit the deleted file to Staging.
7. In staging I create a new edition and publish to production using a synchronized Open Deploy / Data Deploy deployment against the previous edition.
Now here is the question:
Should I not be able to expect that the meta data record in the production database gets deleted as a result of the publish in step 7? When I look at production, the file 'abc123.txt' has been removed but the database record with the file's meta data is still there?
I can not find anything in the documentation that states explicitly that DataDeploy will keep the file assets and the meta data (database) assets in sync when files are deleted. To me this would seem as a given (that it would keep it in sync) but what we are seeing does not seem to indicate this.
The documentation talks a lot about what happens to the delta tables when files are deleted but not what will happen to the meta data record in the production database when the file is removed from production.
If DataDeploy does not keep the filesystem and meta data tables in sync automatically then how is it supposed to be done?
Any facts, comments or opinions on this matter would be highly appreciated.
Thanks
