Special Characters: word text into DCR

System

When text from word is copied and placed in the DCR it displays special characters when previewed. The formatting etc in word means we then have to go through replacing all quote marks and carriage returns. Is anyone else experiencing this - what is the cause and can we do anything to avoid it?
