?'s for trademark when generating

System

Hi,
Here is my system info
Apache.
Here is some more system info:
Host OS: SunOS (5.8)
Version: 5.5.2 Build 14136 Interwoven 20021127
License Expires: NoLimits

My problems is... I have a visual-format control. When the user enters a trademark and previews everything is fine. You can see the trademark, but when the code is generated and sent to web-server, it change the trademark to a ?. If I do a view source it actually shows the trademark symbol instead
of the ®.

I read prior post and changed the visual_formater.xml to use entityname instead of utf-8, but I am still having problem.
