What the **** is a hierbrowser?

One of my users got this wonderful error message while attempting to Add Existing Files to a workflow task:

No selection callback for this hierbrowser

First of all, what the **** is a hierbrowser??? Second of all, what does this stupid error message mean and how can it be fixed?

I have a JPG of the error but it's too big to attach to a DevNet post.
