I have an idea for a new type of workflow task - it's so simple it might have been discussed before, but when have I ever skipped an opportunity to see myself post something?
I would love to have a task, let's call it a
forktask that simply provides the ability to transition to various successor tasks based on the value of a workflow variable, a TAG_info attribute, or perhaps some other type of value. Currently I would need to code up an externaltask script and provide different callback indices to accomplish the same thing. This just seems like such an obvious thing to do, I wonder why it hasn't been done already.
We are currently designing a workflow that has many different "branches" you could go down based on initial user inputs, it would be nice to insert
forktasks where a decision had to be made just to go down one path of the workflow or another. It would certainly be much clearer to someone looking at the WFT or job spec what's going on and also would eliminate that extra few refreshes a person looking at the job in the ToDo list would have to perform to get past the externaltask.
Doesn't seem like too difficult a thing to implement, but would provide a nice addition to the task types.
