opendeploy adapter questions

hello. i am trying to write an adapter and am having some trouble. i need to use a class from an external jar but am unsure about where the jar should be placed. also, i tried to use log4j but was unsuccessfull (iwov's logging isn't as nice but that is what i am using now.) lastly, i am having a porblem due to the fact that the class i am trying to use logs to stdout and stderr but i can't seem to find where these streams go. are they redirected to /dev/null or what?
